DAY 2 - June 20: DISCOVERING TOKYO

Wake to your first full day in Japan's electric capital, ready to explore the city that never stops reinventing itself. Your expert guide leads you through Tokyo's fascinating contrasts, beginning perhaps at the historic Meiji Shrine, where towering torii gates and ancient forest paths offer sanctuary mere steps from Harajuku's trendy streets. Witness the organized chaos of Shibuya Crossing, where thousands of pedestrians flood the intersection in perfect synchronized harmony. Explore the traditional neighborhood of Asakusa, home to the magnificent Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo's oldest Buddhist temple, where the scent of incense mingles with street food aromas along Nakamise shopping street. As you navigate the city, you'll experience Tokyo's efficient subway system and understand why this metropolis of 14 million people runs with such remarkable precision. Lunch features authentic Tokyo cuisine, while dinner introduces you to another facet of Japanese dining culture. By day's end, you'll have glimpsed both the serene spirituality and pulsing energy that define this extraordinary city.

DAY 3 June 21: KYOTO'S GOLDEN TREASURES

Rise early for one of Japan's most thrilling travel experiences: the Shinkansen bullet train. Board the sleek train at Tokyo Station and settle in for the journey to Kyoto, watching as urban landscapes blur past your window at speeds approaching 200 miles per hour. Upon arrival in Japan's ancient capital, your expert local guide leads you first to Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, where gold leaf glimmers against the reflection pool in a scene so perfect it seems painted. Next, venture into the otherworldly calm of Arashiyama's bamboo forest, where towering green stalks create a natural cathedral that filters sunlight into emerald hues. The rustling bamboo creates nature's own meditation soundtrack as you walk the grove's peaceful paths. Your day culminates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of vermilion torii gates create tunnels up the mountainside, each donated by individuals and businesses seeking blessings. Return to Tokyo in the evening, your mind filled with the day's golden temples and sacred gates.

DAY 4 - June 22: KAMAKURA'S COASTAL CHARM

Journey south to the coastal town of Kamakura, where June brings the spectacular hydrangea season that transforms the entire city into a canvas of blue and pink blooms. Your first stop is Meigetsuin Temple, affectionately known as the "Hydrangea Temple," where the traditional Japanese garden overflows with these billowing blossoms in every shade imaginable. The temple's round window frames views of the garden like a living painting, offering the perfect photo opportunity. After a delicious lunch featuring local specialties, encounter the Great Buddha at Kotoku-in temple, an 11-meter bronze statue that has sat in serene meditation for over 750 years. Unlike many Buddha statues housed indoors, this magnificent figure sits beneath open sky, weathered by centuries but still radiating peace. Before returning to Tokyo, wander the charming Komachi-dori shopping street, where traditional crafts, local sweets, and unique souvenirs tempt from every storefront. Sample matcha soft-serve ice cream as you browse, soaking in the relaxed coastal atmosphere.

In the late afternoon, meet at Shihan, or master calligrapher, for a private lesson in the art of Shodo (calligraphy). Focusing on minute brush movements in such tranquil surroundings, guests will explore an ancient art that requires both intellect and creativity. At the end of the session you'll have your beautiful piece of art to take home.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 5 - June 23: MT. FUJI & THE WAY OF TEA

Today brings you face to face with Japan's most iconic natural landmark: Mount Fuji. Travel to the Fuji region where viewpoints offer breathtaking vistas of the perfectly symmetrical volcano, its snow-capped peak rising majestically against the sky. Whether shrouded in morning mist or standing proud in afternoon sunshine, Fuji-san (as the Japanese respectfully call it) never fails to inspire awe. Capture photographs that will make your friends back home envious, understanding why this mountain has been the subject of countless artworks throughout Japanese history. In the afternoon, slow your pace and enter the refined world of Japanese tea ceremony. Under the guidance of a certified tea master, learn the precise, mindful movements that transform the simple act of preparing and drinking matcha green tea into a meditative art form. Discover the philosophy behind each gesture, the significance of the tea room's design, and why this 400-year-old tradition continues to hold deep meaning in modern Japan. The ceremony's emphasis on presence, respect, and finding beauty in simplicity offers lessons that extend far beyond the tea room.

Or indulge in retail therapy in the upscale Ginza district, where flagship stores of international brands stand alongside traditional Japanese department stores offering everything from designer fashion to exquisite ceramics. For a more serene experience, explore the peaceful gardens surrounding the Imperial Palace, where carefully manicured landscapes provide an oasis of calm in the urban heart of Tokyo. Alternatively, your host can recommend neighborhood explorations, perhaps a visit to the quirky Harajuku fashion district, the historic Asakusa area with its famous Senso-ji Temple, or the observation decks of Tokyo Skytree for panoramic city views. This unstructured day also allows time for any last-minute shopping, revisiting a favorite spot, or simply relaxing at your hotel.
